Trust, safety & privacy
A public board only works if people trust what's on it. Here's exactly how we keep fake and harmful listings off Goazon — and how we handle your information.
Keeping the board clean
Confirmed accounts, reviewed first posts
Posters confirm their account and every first listing is read by a person. Businesses and nonprofits can verify control of their venue website or calendar.
Screened before it's pinned
Automated screening flags hate speech, slurs, scam patterns, illegal goods, and impossible or duplicated event details. Flagged and first-time listings are read by a person.
Higher bar for money listings
Vehicles, auctions, and estate sales require a named seller, a checkable location, and — for auctioneers — a license number we confirm.
Community reporting
Any listing can be reported in one click. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and repeat offenders lose posting rights permanently.
Rate limits and payment friction
Paid posting plus per-account limits makes spam expensive and traceable, which is most of why a real cork board stays clean.
Clear house rules
No racism, sexism, hate-group organizing, harassment, adult content, or illegal activity. If it wouldn't be tacked up in a small-town hardware store, it doesn't go here.
How a listing actually gets verified
Verification happens in layers. Nothing is taken on trust, and no single check is treated as proof on its own.
- Layer 01
Simple account confirmation
Individuals confirm their account and first post. Businesses and nonprofits can verify their official website, venue calendar, registry, EIN, or nonprofit record. Government ID is only considered for a disputed appeal or unusually high-risk case.
- Layer 02
Payment as a second signal
A paid listing makes throwaway accounts expensive and provides a traceable transaction signal, which discourages most high-volume spam and scam attempts.
- Layer 03
Contact confirmation
Email and phone are confirmed by one-time code. Disposable-email and VoIP numbers are rejected for money-related categories like vehicles, auctions, and estate sales.
- Layer 04
Listing facts are checked, not just the person
Addresses must resolve to a real, mappable place in the selected town; dates must be in the future; and duplicate or near-duplicate copy across accounts is flagged automatically.
- Layer 05
Automated content screening
Every submission and every later edit runs through screening for hate speech, harassment, illegal goods, adult content, and known scam patterns, plus image checks on all uploaded photos.
- Layer 06
Human review before it goes live
A moderator approves each listing — same day for featured pins. Higher-risk categories (vehicles, auctions, estate sales, fundraisers) require extra proof: title or licence numbers, auctioneer licence, or nonprofit registration.
- Layer 07
Standing after publication
Reports from readers, organizer no-shows, and chargebacks all count against a poster's standing. Repeat problems remove the account and every pin it placed.
- Layer 08
What verification does not mean
A trust badge means the account and relevant organization details were checked and the listing was screened. It is not a guarantee of quality, condition, or price — meet in public, and never wire money in advance.
